Best Places To Visit In Tirthan Valley - Cost | Places | Timing

Let’s start the new travel exploration of ” Places To Visit In Tirthan Valley 2025″ – Himachal Pradesh is one of the most beautiful (mind-soothing), serene, aesthetic, and travel-friendly states. The well-known hill stations of the state, like Manali, Dharamshala, and Shimla, have busy tourist activity throughout the year. Unsurprisingly, these have become overrun with tourists, and off-the-beaten destinations have been born. These are places where you can enjoy being in the nature and less crowded. Tirthan Valley is one of the latest entrants in the offbeat destination list in Himachal Pradesh; it is stunning, peaceful, quiet, and not crowded.

Tirthan Valley Trip

In our opinion, it’s one of the most ideal for trekking, rock climbing, hiking & river crossing. It is in the Kullu district and, like most other valleys in Himachal Pradesh, is named after the river that flows through it – Tirthan.

Location & How To Reach

Kullu is about 50 km from the valley, while Mandi is at a distance of approximately 70 km. The Chandigarh-Manali Highway, up to the Aut Village, is the second route to the valley from Delhi/Chandigarh. From here, you will not proceed into the Aut Tunnel (Kullu Manali bound) but will continue straight to connect to National Highway 303 to reach there. It is an all-weather route.

There is an alternate route you can take from Hindustan Tibet Highway or take National Highway 5 from Shimla towards Kinnaur. After reaching Narkanda, Get off the highway, take the road to Jalori Pass, and cross it to Shoja. Due to heavy snowfall this route will be closed from December to the end of March on Jalori Pass.

You can go to this place in your vehicle. The roads are good, but some choke points are due to developmental works underway. On the whole, the journey is comfortable.

Bus services are beneficial for getting around; you can travel through Himachal Roadways, which runs buses to every accessible village in the valley. Banjar, a key town in the valley, is served by a bus link to the state’s major towns. You can take a frequent public bus service from the Kullu bus stand, which has good options. People from Chandigarh and Delhi traveling by public transport usually take a bus to Kullu/Manali. They drop off before the Atal Tunnel and take a different bus.

If you have the budget, hire a taxi service from the Kullu bus stand.  The taxi rates fluctuate a lot depending on the weather.

Best Time to Visit the Tirthan Valley

The good season gives you an entire year to visit the Tirthan Valley. As with all hill stations, visiting during the summers is preferable to get relief from the heat in the plains and other regions of the country. December to March is the period of choice for those who revel in snowy landscapes.

The months of July to September should be avoided completely. These months fall under the region’s monsoon season along with excessive rainfall. Landslides are frequent during this time. Climbing the hills is both challenging and perilous due to the wet and slick terrain.

Highlights Of Places to Visit in Tirthan Valley

1 – Himalayan National Park

Great Himalayan National Park sprawls over the Kullu District and was set up in 1984. It spans an altitude range of 2000 to 6500 meters. The park is located in both Tirthan and Parvati Valley. It can be approached from Tirthan’s Gushaini and Banjar. Among the few remaining individuals inside the parks are the snow leopard, Himalayan Bear, and Himalayan Blue Sheep, which are all considered endangered species. In Gushaini, tourists can discover some exquisite forests.

However, hire a guide to prevent getting lost and wild animals.

2 – Chhoie Waterfall

I promise this is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Chhoie ever seen in Himachal Pradesh. One needs to trek for 30 minutes from Gushaini to reach this place. Compared with winters, the river’s flow is highest during the summer and the monsoon season.

3 – Chehni Kothi

Chehni Kothi is a village located in the higher terrains of Banjar. It is famous for its massive tower-esque appearance. The structure is similar to the fort structures in Kinnaur, such as Kamru Fort and Kalpa Fort, but the ones located at Chehni Kothi are more elevated. It is, in reality, the highest traditional structure in Himachal Pradesh. It was, however, even taller than it is today, although, unfortunately, it was destroyed in the early 20th century by a strong earthquake.

Adjacent to the center is a Krishna temple, which follows the traditional architectural style. Chehni Kothi can be visited only by trekking. The trail to the village is difficult, and it will take around one hour to arrive; it is a steep trek, especially in the days following rain. The trek begins from Banjar, at the Shringa Rishi Temple.

4 – Shringa Rishi Temple

This is the principal deity’s temple of Banjar. The temple constructed out of wood can be found approximately 3 kilometers from Banjar on the Jibhi Road. There is a signboard marking the location of the temple, which indicates that one has to walk a distance of 15 minutes to reach the temple.

5 – Jibhi Waterfall

Day laborers at a waterfall near Jibhi, Chhoie, also visit it. A waterfall stemming from an unnamed tributary of the Tirthan River exists. It can be reached by car. The government-developed waterfall area is aesthetically done with a log bridge to cross and a stone path.

6 – Jalori Pass

The most iconic pass is located between Kullu and Shimla. It is 16 km away from Jibhi. The temple of Jalori Mata Temple, or Jalori Jot, is the namesake of Jalori Pass and is visible a little before descending the pass. It is located at an elevation of 3120 meters.

In summer you can start your trek from Jalori pass up to Raghupur Fort and Sirolsar Lake but in winter this becomes impossible because of snow. During summer, cars can access Jalori pass easily. During winter, cars are only able to reach Shoja which is 5 kilometers away from Jalori Pass.Snow must be trekked through to Shoja from the pass.

7  – Fort of Raghupur and The Lake of Sirolsar

Raghupur Fort and Sirolsar Lake are accessible by trek from Jalori Pass in the summer months. Raghupur, 3 km from the pass, is a fort. It’s an hour and a half away. The fort is not much of a fort anymore; it is just a ruin. But you can get a nice 360-degree view of the snow-capped Himalayas.

Sirolsar Lake: You can visit Sirolsar Lake easily via a short walk through woods from Jalori Pass in the summers. The Buddhi Nagini Temple is located on Lake One, which is of sacred character and is supposed to be the water of Buddhi Nagin, the goddess of the snakes.
